Church Overview

This characterful L-shaped Gothic edifice with its 100ft spire, on its prominent road island site at the junction of Dura and Albert Streets, was built by architects Charles Edward and Thomas S Robertson from 1874-76. It was commissioned by the Free Church of Scotland to complement the small mission station that had been built there a few years before, which became the church hall. It was first known as Ogilvie Free Church.

Since its foundation, a succession of local congregations came to call the building home, as their own churches (Mayfield, Victoria Street and Park) closed. The building has undergone extensive refurbishment over the years, creating four halls, a fully equipped office and a kitchen, in addition to the sanctuary and vestry. Along with some excellent carved wood furnishings, it possesses some fine stained glass windows by William Wilson, Douglas Hamilton and Liz Rowley.

The building was known as Stobswell Parish Church until 2023, when the Didasko Presbytery moved in and its former congregation moved to the nearby Trinity Church building and transferred the name there. The new congregation, part of a wider network of churches across Scotland, purchased the building from the Church of Scotland in 2025 and renamed it Grace Church Dundee.
