Church Overview
This simple Gothic church, with its distinctive bell tower topped with a pyramid roof and tall pinnacles, was built as Watten United Free Church in 1908 by the architectural firm of father and son Duncan & John Ross McMillan. In 1929, the church became part of the Church of the Scotland, when the two denominations merged in 1929.
The peaceful sanctuary maintained its original stained pitch pine pews beneath a handsome open timber boarded ceiling. A projecting gallery faced the double-staired pulpit.
The church was closed and marketed for sale in July 2025 as the Church of Scotland undertook a nationwide rationalisation of its property portfolio. Planning permission was sought in March 2026 to convert the church into a private residence.
CHURCH NOW CLOSED and in private ownership
