Church Overview

A handsome Early Decorated neo-Gothic church, with a tall roof and belfry, that was built, with along with its adjacent rectory, in 1856-57 by prolific church architect John Henderson. It was further enlarged 1871-2, by that other well-known Scottish church architect Alexander Ross, a hall was added to the rectory in 1893 and a vestry added in 1928.

According to a local historian, when the church was built, its bells rang “doh, ray, me” so that local residents could differentiate the Episcopal church bells from the other denominations in the village by their distinctive peal. It possesses a peaceful interior, with a striking carved stone font and some fine stained glass by Robert Anning Bell of the Stephen Adam Studio, installed in 1922. The building was substantially renovated in 2019-20.
