Church Overview

Built by architect Peter MacGregor Chalmers  (1859-1922) and opened in September 1904, the most striking external feature of this Romanesque church is its round Celtic tower. shaped like a 100ft tall sharpened pencil.

It is named for St Leonard of Noblac, a French 6th century monk and hermit, in whose honour a hospital was built in Dunfermline in the medieval period, close by the site of the church, that later became an almshouse.

Inside the church, its semi-circular apse has a dramatic painting of the Risen Christ surrounded by a number of Gospel characters, designed by the architect and painted by Mr A Samuel in 1927.  It also possesses  a heraldic gallery dedicated to the Scottish Wars of Independence, led by Wallace and Bruce.

Organ by J Binns of Bramley Organ Works was installed in 1910 after a successful application for support from the Carnegie Organ Fund.
