Church Overview

Beautiful T-plan kirk, dating to 1780-81, with striking tooled granite ashlar dressings. Thought to incorporate elements of an older parish church, which stood in the adjacent kirkyard. Vestry was added in 1812, roof was heightened in 1868 and the four-stage bell tower with pyramidal spire was added by architects A. & W. Reid in 1870. Original exterior harling was removed in 1954 with walls entirely repointed instead.

Renovated in 1887, a traditional Scottish kirk interior awaits visitors inside, reflecting the usual Reformed practice of a pulpit on the long wall, a three-sided gallery and an apse, lit by large round-headed windows. A stained glass window by Fiona McInnes was installed in 2009 celebrating the link between church and community. The tower clock was originally on Nairn Town Hall, but was removed, repaired and gifted to Rothes by local jeweller Charles Spark.

Linked with the Parish Church of Knockando, Elchies and Archiestown.
