Church Overview
The building that is now lovingly maintained by the congregation of the River Church Elin began life as a hall for the nearby A-listed St Giles Parish Church. Designed and built in 1897 by prominent local architect John Wittet, the church is a fine example of the fashion for Scots Baronial buildings in the late Victorian era.
Its prominent street-facing elevation is a bold crowstepped gable reaching skyward to a Latin cross finial, flanked on either side by projecting bays topped with stone balustrades. The slating to the curved bay has been completed in a pleasing fish scale pattern.
In 2013, the River Church Network opened the building as the Harvest Centre, later renaming it the River Church Elgin. In 2016, the River Churches in Elgin, Banff and Aberdeen became part of the Antioch Movement.
