Church Overview
Built in a modern neo-Gothic style of red Dumfriesshire sandstone by the architectural firm of Stewart & Paterson, the church’s foundation stone was laid on the 25th March 1933 and it opened its doors for worship on 24 June 1934.
A carving of the burning bush, the emblem of the Church of Scotland, can be been seen over the front door and the oak panelled reredos and other furnishings are the work of skilled craftspeople. The building possesses a fantastic collection of stained glass windows by noted artists including Herbert Hendrie (who created the chancel window of 1935), Gordon Webster, William Wilson and Sadie McLellan. The 3-manual organ was installed in 1938 and completely overhauled in 1968.
In 2020, the congregation of Netherlee Church merged with that of nearby Stamperland Parish Church and the church was renamed to reflect the new union. In 2022, the Stamperland building was sold and several important items were relocated to the Netherlee building as it underwent a major refurbishment.
