Church Overview

Often described as the “smallest parish church in Scotland” this simple white-washed kirk, most likely dates to the mid-18th century, but a datestone on its east end suggests a significant rebuild took place in 1803. Harled eaves were added in 1843 and the porch and east window were added in 1846.

Further significant work to refurbish the interior took place around 1860, when the sanctuary was fully reseated. The pulpit, communion table and chair, carved by Mr Philips of Tormaukin, were gifted to the church in 1898. A large, three light, stained glass window depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd, by the eminent artist Alfred Webster of the Stephen Adam Studio in Glasgow was added in 1913 and a small stained glass window in memory of the Rev Alexander Taylor, who had spent nearly 50 years as minister of the church, was installed in 1951. There are also various other memorial plaques.

The surrounding graveyard has some interesting memorials, including a large gravestone commemorating Jane Rutherford of Glendevon, the last of the local family of landowners of that name to occupy the nearby Glendevon House..
