Church Overview
Known to generations of locals as “The Old Schoolhouse”, this single storey, three bay, sandstone building with its iconic black and gold clock, fronting onto Morningside Road, was built by public subscription as a school in 1823.
As the population of the surrounding Edinburgh suburb grew steadily in the 19th century, a large new school was built on Comiston Road in 1892 and the little school closed but very quickly reopened as a community gathering space and a well-used gospel hall.
The building was extended in 1980, to provide enhanced amenities inside, and In 2022 a major refurbishment of the entire building took place under the auspices of St Columba’s Free Church of Scotland. The interior was modernised and are now available for hire through the week.
