Church Overview

Small neo-Gothic kirk, with a steeply pitched gabled roof, that was built around 1858. The church has corner buttresses, Celtic crosses on every gable, a Gothic bell-cote on the west gable and its  windows have Gothic tracery.

The peaceful interior, with its wooden roof and a pointed chancel arch, was improved in 1876. Its stained glass by Ballantine & Gardiner was installed in 1903 and the pipe organ by Henry Jones & Son in 1956. The font was gifted in 1988 in memory of Rev Walter Henderson, who was minister in the church from 1900 to 1949.

On the 1st January 2025, Auchencairn Church joined Kirkpatrick Durham and Castle Douglas Churches to form a new group known as Carlingwark Parish Churches.
