Church Overview

Originally known as the West United Presbyterian Church, then the Erskine United Free Church and eventually just the Erskine Church, this landmark Saltcoats church was built in 1866 in a Venetian Gothic style. There seems to be some debate whether the architect was William Stewart or Robert Paterson.

In 1993, the congregations of the Erskine Church and Landsborough and Trinity Church formed a union and the building was renamed New Trinity Church. In 2013, the congregation of Barony St John’s Church in Ardrossan united with New Trinity and the church was renamed Ardrossan and Saltcoats Kirkgate Parish Church.

It possesses a fine pipe organ by Forster & Andrews, installed in 1899 and interesting stained glass windows, by artists including William Meikle & Sons and Douglas Hamilton. One window was installed during restoration work in 2017, having been relocated from the closing Barony St John’s Church. The interior was substantially reordered during another significant refurbishment in 2021, removing all of the wooden pews on the ground floor, restoring the gallery above, installing new lighting, carpeting and redecorating the entire space, making the sanctuary a more multi-functional and accessible community space.
