Church Overview

This Gothic, tower-fronted, nave church was built in 1860 to service the needs of the growing village community at Ardrishaig, situated next to the Loch Gilp entrance to the Crinan Canal. The octagonal castellated stage of its tower and the sharp spire above, designed by local builders Andrew David Crow and James Horatio Thomson, were added in 1867-68 and its low, semi-octagonal transepts and vestibule were added in 1904 by Tarbert stonemason John Campbell.

A stained glass window by artist Phil Melville, memorialising the fishing heritage of Ardrishaig, was added to a central window in the bell tower in 2021, while the other leaded windows in the building are fringed with Edwardian, Art Nouveau patterned stained glass. Unusually, the fishing window is lit from inside the building and today acts as a vision beacon welcoming any boats to the village’s safe harbour.

Since July 2023, the congregation of Ardrishaig is united into a single enlarged grouping known as the Parish of Dalriada Mid Argyll, that also includes Achahoish, Lochgilphead, Tayvallich and Kilmartin Churches.
