Church Overview

This exceptional A-listed church, designed by architect David Muir, opened for worship in 1774 and is the third to occupy this prominent site on the banks of the River Irvine. The Classical rectangular box building is fronted by its landmark tower, segmented into six parts, while impressive round-headed windows illuminate the gallery and sanctuary within.

The octagonal steeple, regarded as one of the finest in Scotland, contains a Warner bell dated 1797 and a clock presented by the Irvine Volunteers in 1803. The church originally seated 1800 and underwent significant refurbishment in 1830 and 1897. It possesses a wonderful collection of stained glass, including fine examples of the Kier brothers’ work and windows by Susan Bradbury and John Blyth. The magnificcent Connacher & Co organ is was installed in 1878 and the graveyard outside contains many fine classical monuments, mainly of 19th century date.
