Church Overview
This modern church building of 1971 was designed by the architectural firm of Sutherland, Dickie & Copland. It consisted of a square box of church and hall separated by a partition which could be opened to enlarge the church during the tourist season.
The church was lit by a dramatic clerestory window and contained simple interior with wooden furniture, the altar and font being made of stone and slate. A metal sculpture of the Resurrected Christ by noted Liverpool artist Arthur Dooley adorned the sanctuary wall, which has since been moved to St Andrew & St Cuthbert’s Church in Kircudbright.
The condition of the building deteriorated in the 2010s and the decision was made by the Catholic Diocese to close the church in 2020. The church has since been demolished to make way for a housing development.
