Church Overview

The Christian history of the locality, recently researched, goes back to 710AD. The foundation stone for this beautiful late Victorian church was laid in 1898 and the building was created in a neo-Norman style by prominent architect Sir John James Burnet.

The plainness of the Normanesque tower, the white harled walls and the simple red roof belie the magnificent interior, with its we;;-executed timber rafters and balcony and bold stone archways, separating have from its aisles.

The internal features include many interesting items,. These include fine stained glass depicting various biblical themes, several interesting memorial plaques and an early 18th Memento Mori laden monument. This latter memorialises members of the Gordon family and it came from the first Drainie Kirk, but was relocated to St. Gerardine’s in 1953 when that historic building was demolished to build a new runway for the nearby R.A.F station.

Closed and marketed for sale by the church of Scotland in May 2025
