Church Overview

Built in 1878 for the Free Church of Scotland by architect R Thornton Shiells. Its Gothic stone bellcote has been removed at some point and only the base now remains. A six sided, stone fleur-de-lys cross can be seen at the opposing end of the roof.

Following the union of the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, the building was renamed the Grange Kirk. It merged with nearby Preston Kirk in 1981 and was used for some years as a church hall. In 1992, the local Episcopalian congregation found it necessary to give up their nearby building, so took on the church, renaming it St Andrew’s, fully refurbishing its interior. The Episcopalian congregation sold the site in 2015 to the Lighthouse Community Church, who again entirely reordered the interior once again and relaunched the building as a community hub and café.

The layout inside is much altered, to accommodate a kitchen, servery, comfortable seating and a stage. Two stained glass windows remain from 1878 along with several more from 1930s-40s. The community café offers light snacks and drinks in a welcoming environment.
