Church Overview
Work began on this neat little Early Gothic style church in 1888 and its dedicatory service was held on the 8th February 1889, when it was known as St John’s Church, an extension of Castleton Parish Church.
The architectural firm of Hardy & Wright of Edinburgh were responsible for its design and it was constructed of local white sandstone, with a tiled pitched roof and a small belfry surmounted by a cross, with an initial intended capacity of just over 300 individuals.
In 1998, the west transept had a second floor inserted and soon after the church saw the addition of a fine “Millennium Window” which incorporates a biblical verse and also includes aspects of Liddesdale’s rural life.
