Church Overview

This was an excellent example of one of 75 corrugated-iron churches designed and fabricated by Speirs & Co of Glasgow, ‘Designers and Erectors of Iron and Wood Buildings’, between 1908 and 1914 for the United Free Church of Scotland. Erected in 1910, Minard UF church was one of the congregations that merged with the Church of Scotland in 1929.

Its simple, timber lined interior was adorned with a fine stained glass window by the noted 20th century artists Sax Roland Shaw, installed in 1984, a carved communion table of Austrian oak and a pulpit created from an ancient ash tree from the nearby Crarae estate, designed by Ilay M Campbell.

The church closed in 2016, when its communion table and font were relocated to Lochgair Parish Church. The unlisted prefabricated church building has since been converted into a private residence.

Church now closed and privately owned
