Church Overview
By Thomas Brown 1815, set diagonally across the corner of the square behind a forecourt. Classical two-storey front based on Adam’s design for the west block of the University. Inside, fluted cast-iron columns support the U-plan gallery. Substantial modernisation 1972. Organ by Forster & Andrews of Hull dating from 1864. Interesting modern chapel in basement created in 1989 by Nira Ponniah. Small public garden at rear. Redevelopment work is ongoing to make CEMC buildings more accessible to all in our community. When the work is complete we will have a new street level access cafe, modern chapel and flexible worship space, as well as excellent meeting facilities.
