Church Overview

Remarkable Gothic revival church of 1866 by Joseph A Hansom given an entirely new slant. The simple nave with narrow side aisles leads to a noble polygonal chancel which soars up into a spire. The tall windows of the tower flood the chancel with light and giving a contrast with the dark nave. Notable polychrome stone and brick interior with superb detail and craftsmanship. Flamboyant altarpiece by A B Wall of Cheltenham, 1897. Stained glass by Mayer of Munich. A feature of the church is the floodlit well twelve metres deep. Joseph A Hansom, as well as an architect, was the designer of the Hansom cab.
