Church Overview
Built on land gifted by William Wotherspoon of Maxwellton, this Gothic, blonde sandstone church, with its 85 foot spire, opened in June 1885 as the Lylesland United Presbyterian Church. Designed by architects Baldie & Tennant of Glasgow, it cost around £2100 to build, with funds raised by the congregation of the nearby Thread Street UP Church. Deceptively spacious inside, its sanctuary, gallery and two transepts could accommodate up to 600 people.
It has since passed through the hands of the United Free Church, the Church of Scotland, the Living Waters Church and the Redeemed Christian Church of God and is now in the care of the Christ Ambassadors Community Church of God.
