Church Overview

Cairneyhill Parish Church is a delightful rural kirk set at the east end of the Fife village. Built in 1752, it is now one of the few remaining churches in Scotland built by the 18th century Anti-Burgher Secessionist movement that still functions today as a village church in its almost original form. Following a series of further denominational splits and unions the church’s congregation rejoined the Church of Scotland in 1929.

The simple church building is oblong, harled and slated, with projecting scrolled skew-putts and a neat belfry. Its carved oak pulpit and communion table are flanked on either side by two striking stained glass windows installed in 1902, one of which commemorating the church organist who had sadly died while playing the instrument during a service two years before.

Its exterior was beautifully restored in 2013 and its interior was substantially reordered in 2021-22 to improve accessibility and facilities within the 18th century kirk. In addition to its regular services, the building now hosts an array of community events and organisations, regular coffee mornings and participates the nationwide “Warm Welcome Space” initiative, providing venues across the British Isles for local residents to heat, meet and eat at low cost or freely during the winter months.

Cairneyhill Parish Church is linked with Limekilns Parish Church and both are part of the West Fife Village Churches cluster with the Fife Presbytery of the Church of Scotland.
