Church Overview

This handsome three-bay Gothic parish church, with its robust three-stage pinnacled square tower, is situated at the highest point of the village and was built in 1835, originally as a chapel of ease, with funding provided by Mrs Dirom of Mount Annan and her friends.

Its interior was entirely recast in 1900, when a chancel apse was created under the tower and a new gallery added at the west end. A porch was added in 1956 and a brightly coloured stained glass window, by the celebrated artist William Wilson, was installed in the apse in 1962. A Viscount two-manual electronic organ was gifted to the church in 2007.

The church was linked with Hoddam in 1972 and, in 2024, its congregation was formally united with that of Annan St Andrew’s, Dalton and Hightae to form Annan: St Andrew’s and St Bryde’s. The decision was taken by the local Church of Scotland Presbytery thereafter, during a period of rationalisation of its nationwide property portfolio by the denomination, to close Brydekirk Parish Church. The final service was held on Sunday 28th December 2025.

The kirkyard outside, with its predominantly 19th century gravestones, remains in the care of Dumfries and Galloway Council and open for public visits.
