Church Overview

Built in 1907, in a neo-Norman style, by the prolific church builder Peter MacGregor Chalmers, the kirk’s bellcote is incorporated from an earlier building of 1776 which was also subsequently borne by a church built in 1855 on this site.

Its granite-walled interior, unusual chancel and lovely woodwork give a special atmosphere of peace and beauty. The Rothwell pipe organ came from from Urquhart Church, Elgin, and was rebuilt in 1991 by David Loosley.

This church was the only charge of the Rev Archibald Eneas Robertson, who is usually attributed as the very first ascender of all of Scotland’s ‘Munros’ in 1901 (282 mountain peaks of over 3,000ft – although only 281 were so accredited at the time of his record).
