Church Overview

Built on the site of its mid-18th century predecessor by architect Peter MacGregor Chalmers, this remarkable Hebridean parish kirk, with its distinctive ‘pencil’ tower, held its first service on 23 April 1905 and its dedication service on 24 June 1905.

The interior is decorated in the Arts & Crafts style and features a painted apse and characteristically plain but beautiful oak pulpit, font and communion table. The apse is richly coloured and the church possesses seven stained glass, installed between 1905 and 1910, by noted artist Stephen Adam, who had been married in the predecessor church.

The landmark tower contains a late 19th century bell, cast in a Glasgow foundry, and the church also houses a one of two known fragments of the medieval Kilmore Cross, which was formerly located in the graveyard of Kilcolmkill Church, before it was stolen in 1964. The fragment was rediscovered in 1974 lying by the side of the road near Skipness in Kintyre and moved to the church for safe-keeping, the other piece has never been found.
