Church Overview

Sitting nestled among the trees on a hillside next to the main heading out of Glenuig village, up a short set of steps and a short path, is this charming little Gothic mission church that was built in 1861 to service the spiritual needs of the local Catholic congregation.

The little chapel of ease was paid for by eminent Victorian barrister, Tractarian and grandson-in-law of Sir Walter Scott James Scott-Hope, who owned the nearby Dorlin House, which was demolished in the 1960s, and also paid for construction of the Catholic church at Mingarry.

The church’s simple and restful interior is adorned with some late 19th century stained glass, depicting St Agnes and St Mary, and some early 20th century windows showing the Sacred Heart and other saints.
