Church Overview

The handsome late-Georgian box of 1821, built in granite by Aberdeen architect John Smith with its crenallated and pinnacled tower, stands at the top of one of Scotland’s few village greens. The interior was completely remodelled by architect A Marshall Mackenzie in 1890. It contains some very fine stained glass and a Harrison and Harrison manual action pipe organ.

The very unusual circular, stone Morthouse of 1832, located across the village green in the old churchyard, kept coffins securely under lock and key for up to three months on a revolving platform withing the building.

One of many of churches closed and sold by the Church of Scotland in the 2020s, now being sensitively restored in private ownership with a view to the building being used for occasional events and worship.

Closed by the Church of Scotland in 2022 and SOld. Now in Private Ownership
