Church Overview
St. Margaret of Scotland is a picturesque C-listed red brick church with a vaulted timber interior. The church’s predominantly brick construction makes it unique among buildings of a similar age in Tayport.
The building was designed by eminent Dundee architect Thomas Martin Cappon and built in 1896. Cappon also designed St Mary’s Episcopal Church in nearby Newport-on Tay. It features a variety of texture and colour and exhibits a fine use of timber and intricate window tracery. The chancel windows have leaded glass incorporating the church’s liturgical colours.
Somewhat unusually, St Margaret’s also possesses a late 19th century, imported American reed organ by the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont. In 2004, the congregation built a nearby church hall, providing a venue and facilities for local clubs and organisations.
