Church Overview

Burgh church of Perth dedicated to John the Baptist and consecrated in 1242 on site of earlier church. Divided into three churches after the Reformation and restored 1923-6 by Sir Robert Lorimer. Good examples of modern stained glass including window of Knox Chapel by Douglas Strachan. Statue of John the Baptist by Indian sculptor Fanindra Bose, and tapestry by Archie Brennan of Dovecot Studios Edinburgh. Nave with barrel vaulting has carvings of events in the life of Christ. Glass screen at west door installed 1988. Organ by Rothwell 1926, rebuilt 1986 by Edmonstone. St John’s Kirk is a Destination Hub on the St Andrew Pilgrim Journey.
