Church Overview
The parish was founded in 1862 and the present church opened in 1973 (replacing the previous church of 1882), its hall was built in 2008. Designed by Charles W. Gray and Partners, the striking circular building was re-roofed in 1998 by DTA Architects.
The church grounds contain the Carfin Lourdes Grotto, which officially opened in October 1922 after being built by local parishioners. The shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims throughout the year, providing public services from May to mid-October on Sundays at 3.00pm.
The Our Lady, Maid of the Seas glass chapel is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Lockerbie tragedy and was created by Page and Park architects for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988, after which it was purchased for the Carfin Grotto by the then parish priest. It is open 10am-8pm Easter to October.
