Church Overview
Believed to have been built around 1807, this lovely rural kirk stands overlooking the sea and Sand Wick bay below. A simple rectangle in shape, it was substantially re-ordered in 1897 when two external doors were converted to windows and the pulpit was moved to from the south to west wall.
It houses a raked wooden gallery on its eastern end, held aloft by cast iron pillars, and the sanctuary is lit by a line of round arched windows on its northern and southern walls. The utilitarian interior is well fitted out with timber wainscoting and a lined ceiling leading the eye to the exposed beams held up by exposed stone corbels.
The vestry has recently been redecorated and has on display items relating to the church’s and parish’s history, including portraits of previous ministers, cradle rolls and more.
