Church Overview

Striking early-Victorian church, with a slim, battlemented square tower, designed and built 1842-3 by prominent London architect Sir William Tite to replace an 18th-century church (the ruin of which lies to  the north). The chancel was added in 1926, during a period of internal remodelling that also witnessed the installation of electric lighting, and the porch was added 1963.

The church is home to some fine glasswork, including a triple stained glass window from 1910, commissioned in memory of the Rev Angus Gunn, three stained glass windows by artists Adam Robson and Jennifer Campbell, the “Union Window” from 1979 by Douglas Hogg and “The Millennium” glass screens designed by Angus Maclean in 2003.

The carved oak pulplt, alabaster and marble font and handsome Rushworth and Dreaper pipe organ were all installed during the 1926 refit, and a striking reredos tapestry, based on the Ardchattan Cross, designed by Adam Robson in 1963.

As of 1st January 2026 there was a union of Muckart and Dollar. The new name is East Hillfoots Church of Scotland.
