Church Overview

The present attractive church was designed by Robert McLachlane and completed in 1790, just as the new planned village of Eaglesham was taking shape. The Gothic-style structure, originally octagonal, is joined to a classical ashlar steeple with clock tower, inscribed with the uncompromising ‘woe is unto me if I preach not the Gospel’. Simple, but beautifully effective interior.

Fine 2-manual ‘Father’ Willis organ of the 1880s, moved here in the 1970s by James McKenzie. Embroidered pulpit falls by Kathleen Whyte and Fiona Hamilton. Covenanter graves in churchyard.

Further up Montgomery Street from the Church itself are the Carswell Halls. This Gothic-style building was formerly the Carswell United Presbyterian Church, built in 1867 as”a fine non-conformist rural church” and an important feature of the streetscape of this conservation village. It is used for formal and informal worship on a weekly basis and for faith and devotional groups and for meetings.
