Church Overview

Early Geometric Gothic church by William Slater, 1857-65, its 56 metre spire diapered with bands of ornament and cinquefoils. The statue of St Peter on the tower is by Dorothy M McKay. Octagonal baptistery (now the Miller Chapel). Nave arcade supported on polished granite piers. Stencilled decoration on roofs by G H Potts. Panels on chancel walls of Evangelists and the Agnus Dei by George Dobie 1890. Round Caen stone pulpit by Poole, stained glass by Clayton & Bell and Isobel Goudie. Organ by Frederick Holt 1856, rebuilt Scovell 1913, and Rushworth & Dreaper 1959, completely rebuilt Geoffrey Coffin of York 2011.
